Why brands on Odoo look for a 3PL
Odoo tends to attract businesses that want one system of record rather than a stack of disconnected tools. A typical Odoo user might sell through a Shopify or WooCommerce storefront, take trade orders from stockists, raise purchase orders to suppliers and run the books, all inside the same instance. That breadth is the appeal, but it also means the warehouse is often the last part of the business still run by hand from a garage, a small unit or the founder's spare room.
Odoo describes its Inventory app as both an inventory application and a warehouse management tool, with warehouses, locations, routes and transfers. Handing the physical work to a 3PL lets you keep that structure in Odoo while someone else does the picking, packing and carrier work at volume.
What an Odoo-led business needs from its warehouse
Because Odoo mixes retail and trade orders in the same sales pipeline, the warehouse behind it has to cope with very different order shapes on the same afternoon: a single parcel to a consumer, then a multi-carton order for a stockist. We fulfil both from one stock pool, with case, carton and pallet picking for B2B work alongside DTC parcels.
Odoo users also care about the numbers matching. Goods-in at Smart is checked against your purchase orders, so when a supplier delivery arrives short or mixed you hear about it before it becomes a stock discrepancy in Odoo. Regular cycle counts keep what we hold and what Odoo believes you hold in line, and live stock and order visibility sits in our client portal if your team wants a second view.
Orders placed before 9pm are dispatched the same day (cut-offs vary by carrier, service and daily order profile), and our 99.9% pick and pack accuracy keeps customer service tickets and credit notes to a minimum.
How Odoo sales orders become parcels at Smart
In Odoo, confirming a sales order creates an outgoing transfer, often called a delivery order, against a warehouse. With Smart connected, those confirmed orders flow to us automatically, so nobody on your side has to export a picking list or email a spreadsheet.
Once a parcel leaves our dock, stock levels and tracking or order status sync back to Odoo. Your sales team can see what has shipped against each customer order, and your available stock figure reflects what is actually on our shelves rather than what was on them last week.
Before go-live, your named contact, Andy Paine, works through your product records, units of measure and any kits or bundles with you, so the SKUs we pick match the lines Odoo sends.
