Becoming a verified seller on diy.com
B&Q launched its marketplace in 2022 to extend the choice on diy.com well beyond what its stores carry. Sellers are brands and retailers in home improvement and the home, and B&Q calls them verified sellers because each one goes through a verification process covering regulatory, legal and quality requirements and a level of service consistent with B&Q.
The application itself shows what B&Q looks at. Alongside company and VAT details, the form asks whether you can ship to the end customer yourself and what your average delivery time is. Fulfilment capability is part of getting in, not something to sort out later.
What diy.com orders demand of fulfilment
To the customer, a verified seller's product checks out just like a B&Q one, flagged as Sold and shipped by the seller. Behind that, B&Q's help pages are clear: the contract of sale is with the seller and the delivery is arranged by the seller. Customer questions arrive through a Contact seller button, and B&Q monitors those conversations, so a late or mis-shipped order becomes visible to B&Q as well as to you.
Standard home delivery is the core service for seller items, and returns can be arranged by collection or, for most products, through a B&Q store. Some sellers can also offer Click + Collect on selected products, collected from selected stores and arranged by the seller. Specific dispatch and cancellation measures sit in your seller agreement, and we work to the handling time you commit to there.
Home improvement is a heavy category. Tiles, paint, flooring, garden furniture and boxed tools are bulky or awkward, and a split tin or a cracked tile is a return waiting to happen. Bulky stock needs storage that suits it, packing built for the weight and a carrier service matched to the parcel rather than one default.
How B&Q Marketplace orders run through Smart
With your seller account connected, diy.com orders flow into our system automatically. Each is picked from your shared stock, packed for the product and dispatched with the right carrier for its size, whether DPD, Evri, Royal Mail or another service, tracked with proof of delivery.
Tracking and order status sync back to the B&Q marketplace as the parcel leaves, so the customer's order page and B&Q's view match reality. Stock levels sync back too, keeping diy.com from selling lines you have already sold elsewhere. Orders placed before 9pm are dispatched the same day (cut-offs vary by carrier, service and daily order profile).
Selling on B&Q alongside other home improvement channels
Verified sellers often list the same range on other DIY and home marketplaces. One stock pool keeps them all honest, pallet storage handles bulk lines, and returns are graded and restocked with reason codes. Your named contact, Andy Paine, handles the account directly.
